I'm pleased to see this excellent camera is a new item in the EO Shop, along with a bunch of accessories.

Very well priced too.

Anyone who buys one of these will just add a whole new dimension to their home videos.

Sounds an interesting gadget.
Where would it be mounted?I n a permanent position?
Is it a stand alone item or does it need to be connected to a computer-see it has an sd card is this the storage method?
If someone could provide a n explanation of how it's set up and how easy to use it is I would be most appreciative,
Cheers,
Mary

Mary, it is in 2 parts: the camera and the recorder, joined by a cable.

The camera can be mounted in various ways, velcro or using the accessory mounts also in the shop.

The cable is about 1.5 metres long. The camera is waterproof (think of that....). It can take an 8GB SD card maximum.

There are cables in the kit that allow you to plug it into a TV and play it back. There's software to put it on your PC and then you can integrate it with other home movies.

I will be putting mine on top of my van looking forward over the tow vehicle. I'm also thinking of cable tie-ing it underneath to film the suspension working away. Really, there's no limit to its use. The resolution is selectable and at its top setting is very good.

Lots and lots of fun.

This Thursday ALDI will be selling a more basic tiny self-contained video camera for a lot less - $149 - it has slightly less resolution 640x480 vs 720x480.

It's a totally self contained unit which will make it easier to mount, but it means you can't turn recording on/off. Although since you can record for hours on one card, you could just turn it on, mount it on the car and then go for an exciting drive.

It's even waterproof to 3 metres.

Bit hard to compare though Mike, especially given the very poor FOV.

The aldi ones are the exact specs of the Oregon Scientific ATC 2K which is the superceded model now (ATC 3K is current version).

Having seen both of these in action, i know which one i would go given a $1000 budget :)

I didn't realise there were so many of the mini-cams available - there are reviews of quite a few here, including the POV unit sold here -

Have a look at the videos here. These are the Aussie agents. Same price as EO.

Just be aware that it is set up for American frame rates / sizes at 720x480, 30fps. Australia is 720x576 @ 25fps for standard definition.

It will work fine for direct conversion to youtube etc but if you are going to edit it together with footage from another camera you will probably have to do some conversion / scaling (which looses resolution in the process).

Hey psproule,

Any video editing software worth its salt should cope fine with NTSC 30fps and should upscale, so no loss of resolution.

Hi Gone Bush

How have you found its light sensitivity , I know someone one who has one for use on a bike , works pretty well , but in the winter victorian bush it struggles with light a bit.

Robin, I haven't used it that much yet. It seemed to cope with going in and out of sunshine OK on one occasion where I was under a verandah type of setup and then went out into the sun.

Don't know if it'll help Robin, they have an upgrade of the firmware which seems to open some good exposure settings.http://www.vio-pov.com/firmware_update/

To put in my 10c, I can recommend the flip HD having played with one last weekend.

720p HD in something smaller than a fag packet with USB charging and download built in.
